Resources: Locking our Daughters Away - Are Women with Disabilities Still
a Social Embarrassment?
Discussion Leader: Christina Ryan NOTE: This is an archive of our 2002 website. For current information, please see our updated site for 2003.
Do we still need an attic to hide our disabled daughters in? Why are there so few women with disabilities in senior management and leadership positions? Is it the case that there is still a social cringe in seeing women, who are not physically perfect, making decisions that effect others and holding responsibility? Do we still consider that women with disabilities are better off rarely seen and never heard? Even the disability movement is predominantly governed by men, and yet the proportion of the population that has a disability is equal for both sexes.
